Preventive Dental Cleanings for Young Smiles
As a parent, you want your child to be as healthy as possible. One way to do that is by encouraging your little one to eat healthy foods, to be active, and to brush and floss. Another way is to schedule frequent dental cleanings with our team at Treasured Teeth. For all patients, regardless of age, frequent checkups are vital for having a healthy smile. Your entire family should be seeing a dentist about every six months for preventive cleanings and oral exams.
Why are frequent visits so important?
Because creating healthy smiles depends on diagnosing and treating the most common oral health problems as soon as possible. During your little one’s checkup, one or our dentists will complete a full oral exam, looking for signs of decay, gum disease, and more. If we find anything, we can talk to you about what treatment options are most appropriate for your son or daughter.
During your child’s visit, one of our hygienists will also have the chance to clean excess bacteria and plaque away from his or her teeth and gums. Bacteria and plaque are what cause decay and gum disease in the first place. Cleaning your little one’s teeth will help them enjoy better oral health in between visits.
One of the most important things we can do for your children’s lifelong oral health is make sure their experience in our office is pleasant. With happy childhood memories of visiting the dentist, they are more likely to continue taking care of their teeth and gums as they mature into adulthood.
With this in mind, our doctors sometimes recommend a lap exam. We understand that the unfamiliar sights and sounds in a dentist’s office can be frightening for a young child. So, what could be more reassuring for a child than sitting in mommy or daddy’s lap while the dentist takes care of your smile?
While they are comfortably settled in your lap—or even the dentist’s lap for our more adventurous patients!--we will sing songs, tell stories, and comfort your child as they experience these new and necessary sensations in their mouth.
